The case of H10N3 strain has been reported in a 41-year-old man living in the city of Zhenjiang (Zhenjiang) in the eastern part of Jiangsu.
The world is still bearing the brunt of Coronavirus in India that a new flu found in China has raised concerns. China’s National Health Commission (NHC) said on Thursday that the first case of humans being infected with a particular bird flu strain has been reported in the eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu. According to a statement given on the NHC website, the NHC has confirmed the infection of humans with the H10N3 bird flu strain.
The Health Commission statement said, this case of infection with the H10N3 strain has come to light in a 41-year-old man living in the city of Zhenjiang, located in the eastern part of the province. This case of infection has come up due to poultry farming. However, the NHC has assured that there is very little scope for this infection to spread on a large scale. It further said that no cases of human infection of H10N3 bird flu have been reported in the world so far.
All the people who met the infected were kept under medical supervision.
The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) performed a genome sequence on a patient’s blood sample last week and confirmed that it was a H10N3 bird flu strain. The local authorities have done contact tracing of the people who met the infected patient and all those people are currently under medical supervision. The NHC statement said that experts have assessed that a complete genetic analysis of the virus has revealed that the H10N3 virus is of bird-related origin.
Survivors of exposure to live birds and chickens
Experts have advised that people in this area should avoid coming in contact with sick or dead chicken or birds. Also, one should try to avoid direct contact with live birds. The NHC advised that they should focus on food hygiene, wear masks, improve self-protection awareness and check for fever and respiratory symptoms. Earlier in February, China reported an outbreak of H5N8 avian influenza in the coastal city of Lianyungang in the eastern province of Jiangsu.
H5N6 avian flu found in China in April
Highly dangerous avian influenza detected among wild birds in a crowded area of Lianyungang. In its report, Xinhua reported that H5N8 is a subtype of ‘influenza A virus’ (also known as bird flu virus). H5N8 is less risky to humans only, but proves to be extremely deadly for wild birds and chickens. At the same time, in April, H5N6 avian flu was found in wild birds in Shenyang, a city in northeast China’s Liaoning province.
