Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said that his country was not involved in the attack on Israel’s oil tanker.
US Navy on Isreal Oil Tanker Drone Attack
Iran on Sunday denied its involvement in the drone attack on an oil tanker off Oman. Two people died in this attack and Israel has blamed Tehran for this attack. Tension has increased in the area after the attack. This comment by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh is the first official comment from Tehran on the attack. The attack took place off Oman offshore on Thursday night, targeting a Liberian-flagged oil tanker ‘Mercer Street’.
This is the first fatality in the region in years after the cessation of attacks on commercial ships. It is being linked to tensions with Iran over the nuclear deal. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack. Israeli officials have accused Tehran of the drone strike. Khatibzahed on Sunday called the allegations baseless. Such allegations and counter-allegations are not new, he said. Those responsible for this attack are those who allowed the Israeli regime to establish its foothold in the region. The US Navy is now taking this tanker to a safe harbor.
UK and Romanian citizens who died
Significantly, an oil tanker belonging to an Israeli billionaire man was attacked near the coast of Oman in the Arabian Sea. The company that manages the oil tanker said two crew members who were residents of Britain and Romania were killed in the attack. The attack was carried out on Thursday night targeting the oil tanker ‘Mersar Street’. The incident took place in the northeast of Oman’s Masira Island on late Thursday night. This place is more than 300 km from Muscat, the capital of Oman. Other ships belonging to Israel have also been attacked in the past months.
America also admitted – the attack was done by drone
At the same time, US Navy explosive device experts believe that a ‘drone attack’ was carried out on an oil tanker near the Oman coast in the Arabian Sea. The US Army has given this information on Saturday. The US Navy’s West Asia-based Fifth Fleet said in a statement on Saturday morning that the nuclear-powered US aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan and the guided missile destroyer USS Mitscher are now escorting it until it reaches the safe harbor at Mercer Street. Huh.
