International Yoga Day is being celebrated all over the world. In this episode, the Indian Embassy in America also celebrated the seventh International Yoga Day at the Indian House. This time the theme of Yoga Day is ‘Yoga for Wellness’. At the same time, India’s Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu said on the occasion that yoga has the potential to improve the physical and mental health of people. Embassy officials also participated in this program organized at ‘Indian House’.
According to a press release issued by the Indian embassy, Sandhu welcomed the participants and emphasized that yoga should improve their physical and mental health, especially amid the adverse impact of the global pandemic. It has the ability to provide them good health and happiness. He said that India and America have stood shoulder to shoulder with each other to deal with the COVID-19 global epidemic. The theme of this year’s program is ‘Yoga for Wellness’. In the US, the five consulates of India in New York, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta and San Francisco organized events on International Yoga Day.
Yoga program organized on Times Square
The Consulate in New York, in collaboration with the Times Square Alliance, organized an event on Times Square, in which more than three thousand people attended. While addressing the Yoga Day celebrations here, Consul General of India Randhir Jaiswal said, “While we celebrate Yoga in different parts of the world, the celebration of Yoga here in Times Square is very special, very unique. More importantly, yoga is a universal thought and universal action. What better place than Times Square to celebrate the universal idea. This is the crossroads of the world.
Indian diaspora also celebrated Yoga Day
Deputy Consul General Shatrughan Sinha and senior consulate officials as well as members of the Indian diaspora also participated in the yoga session. Leading yoga instructor Ruchika Lal led the yoga, pranayama and meditation sessions. Keeping in mind the theme of International Yoga Day, the program focused on holistic health. The Indian community in New Jersey led the Yoga Day celebrations at Liberty State Park. In Chicago, the consulate, in collaboration with yoga organizations in the Midwest region, celebrated Yoga Day in Grant Park, where some people attended the event online in addition to visiting the park.
