Reports published by a US-based think tank suggest that immigrant families are more stable than Native-orn Americans. Also, Indian American Families are at the forefront of marriage stability. After analyzing the census data, the Institute of Family Studies (IFS) found that 72% of immigrants with children are still in their first marriage, while this share among Native Americans is just 60%. IFS works towards strengthening marriage and family life.
Wendy Wang, director of research at IFS, stated that immigrants in general have relatively high marriage rates and low divorce rates. He wrote that in 2019, 59 out of every 1,000 unmarried migrants between the ages of 18 and 64 married, while the number of Native Americans stood at 39. On the other hand, Native Americans had a relatively high divorce rate among immigrants. The report stated, “13 out of 1000 married 18-64-year-old immigrants divorced in 2019, while 20 out of 1000 couples of same-age Native Americans separated.”

Wang said that not all immigrant families are equal in terms of family structure. According to their analysis of the 2019 American Community Survey, approximately 94% of first-generation Indian immigrants with children are married. The share of Indian Americans who remarry is about 4%, while only 2% of Indian immigrants with children remain unmarried.
