Pakistan on UNSC Afghanistan Meeting: The United Nations Security Council meeting was held on Friday on the issue of Afghanistan, which was chaired by India. Pakistan was not invited to this meeting, about which it has expressed displeasure. Pakistan’s Permanent Envoy to the United Nations, Munir Akram, has called it a violation of the council’s rules. Along with this, the Pakistani government has dismissed the allegations of Afghanistan and India of providing safe havens and cross-border movement of Taliban fighters as ‘fiction’.
In the press conference held after the UNSC meeting, Munir Akram said, ‘We had also made an official request to attend the meeting but it was not accepted. We do not expect any neutrality from the Indian presidency for Pakistan. Along with this, he told that the complete statement of Pakistan will be circulated to all the member countries of the Council (UN Meeting India Pakistan). The Permanent Envoy of Pakistan said that the Pakistan Army is conducting operations in Waziristan and other places and there are no safe havens for terrorists in their country. Along with this, 97 percent of the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan has been cordoned off.
Explained the role of Pakistan in the Afghan talks
Pakistani envoy Munir Akram reiterated his point of view several times on the role of Pakistan in the Afghan peace talks. He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has many times asked for a political solution for the peace and security of Afghanistan (Imran Khan on Pakistan Situation). Also, Pakistan helped organize intra-Afghan talks in Doha in September 2020. Then he said that the terrorists of Tehreek-e-Pakistan and Dash are targeting Pakistan from the land of Afghanistan.
What is the reason for not being invited to the meeting?
One of the reasons behind not inviting Pakistan to this meeting is the serious allegations against it. Which no one else but Afghanistan itself has planted. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Vice President Amrullah Saleh have said several times that Pakistan’s military and intelligence agencies are providing aid to the Taliban. They are giving him weapons as well as terrorists. Due to which the Taliban has remained in the fight till now. This help is being told as much as NATO is giving to Afghanistan. If Pakistan does not help the Taliban, it will kneel within a week. However, Pakistan has rejected these allegations.
