The long-running border dispute between India and China does not seem to be ending. China, which has blamed India for the part in the Galvan Valley, is not deterring itself from its antics. News18 quoted sources as saying on Tuesday that 100 soldiers of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China infiltrated Indian territory at Barahoti in Uttarakhand on August 30. These soldiers came on horseback and stayed in the area for “three hours”.
Sources further said that the Chinese army destroyed a foot bridge, but there was no face-off with the Indian security forces. “By the time the Army and ITBP personnel arrived, the PLA personnel had left,” the sources said.
This incident has happened when the military confrontation in Eastern Ladakh has been going on for 17 months. A Times of India report quoted its sources as saying that the new Intelligence and Surveillance report shows that the People’s Liberation Army has “at least eight more forward locations” along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in front of eastern Ladakh. It has built a “new modular container-based habitat” for its troops in the U.S.
Both India and China continue to deploy around 50,000 troops with support from howitzers, tanks and surface-to-air missile systems in “immediate depth areas” along the LAC in eastern Ladakh.
In the midst of this tense calm, both armies are routinely retraining their troops due to the lack of oxygen in harsh terrain and high altitude areas, while also deploying aircraft and drones to keep an eye on each other.
India China Faceoff: Illegally crossed LAC, China blames India for Galwan Valley violence
Earlier, China had held India responsible for the violence in Galvan Valley on June 15, 2020 last year. 20 Indian and four Chinese soldiers were killed in this conflict. Dragon had alleged that New Delhi violated all border agreements and encroached upon the Chinese.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said, “Last year, the Galwan Valley incident happened, because India violated all agreements and treaties and encroached on Chinese territory, illegally crossed the LAC. We hope that India Will abide by all agreements and maintain peace and stability in the border area with concerted action.”
