The world has made unprecedented development in the field of science to medicine. But even then, some such practices exist in some parts of the world, which raise a question mark on the development of human beings. One such mischief is present in the Central Asian country Kyrgyzstan, which has now created a ruckus in this country. In Kyrgyzstan it is customary to kidnap brides for marriage. On April 5, 27-year-old Aizada Kanatbekova was kidnapped and murdered here. There is anger among the people of this country.
Angry people demonstrated fiercely outside the country’s home ministry after the kidnapping and murder of Aizada Kanatabkova. Two days after the abduction Kanatbkova’s body was recovered from a car in a rural area. The body of the deceased woman was also recovered along with the deceased woman. Police have said that he died due to a knife wound. One of his suspected accomplices has been taken into custody by the police. Explain that in 2013, the government had abolished the practice of kidnapping brides for marriage (Bride Kidnapping). But even after this, this practice continues throughout the country.
Protesters demanded resignation from home minister and police chief
The anger of the people is about the fact that the victim woman was abducted in front of the camera. During this time, the camera model, car number and picture of the suspect was recorded in the camera. But even after so much evidence, the police failed to catch the kidnapping. The protesters, protesting outside the Home Ministry, demanded the officers to resign from the post. Around 500 people gathered outside the headquarters of the ministry in the capital Bishkek and raised slogans of ‘Sharm Karo, Sharm Karo’. The protesters said that the city’s police chief and home minister would have to resign.
President-Prime Minister condemned the incident
Prime Minister Ulugbek Maripov addressed the angry mob and asked people to give time to the police to investigate the crime. But angry protesters also raised slogans against him and demanded that he be removed from his post. At the same time, President Sadar Japarova said in a statement that the accused will be punished. He described the death of Kanatabkova as a tragic incident. He also condemned the practice of kidnapping the brides.
This practice is linked to the past of Kyrgyzstan
This practice of kidnapping brides is locally known as ‘Aila Kachu’. The roots of this system are linked to the nomadic past of Kyrgyzstan and remained present till the Soviet era. After the independence of Kyrgyzstan in 1991, this practice came into vogue. Due to the dangers of violence and cultural stigma, most women do not even register a complaint. Women and girls are forcibly abducted under this practice. After this, the pressure of marriage is made on them. Officials say that due to this practice, women have to face even domestic violence and psychological trauma.
