Moeed Yusuf has been appointed as the National Security Advisor (NSA) of the country in Pakistan. Prime Minister Imran Khan has entrusted this responsibility to his special assistant Yusuf on national security. Yousuf’s appointment as NSA is taking place at a time when reports are coming that India and Pakistan have been negotiating through backdoor since the beginning of this year. As a result, both sides agreed to a 2003 ceasefire agreement on the LOC in February.
In the notification issued by the Cabinet Division on 17 May, the appointment of Yousuf as NSA was given. This notification said, ‘The Prime Minister is very happy to approve that Dr. Moeed W. Yusuf, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Security and Strategic Policy Plan, has been appointed as National Security Advisor with immediate effect. He will get the same power as a federal minister.
What did Pakistan say about negotiation with India?
Last month, Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhry (Zahid Hafeez Chaudhry) was questioned by several journalists about back-door talks between India and Pakistan. Instead of completely rejecting this question, Chaudhary said, every country has its own methods and means of negotiating, which are available even in the time of war. Therefore, whether or not there is any interaction between India and Pakistan is not important.

On the other hand, when Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi was asked in New Delhi about the media reports whether India and Pakistan have been in backdoor talks for more than a year? So this is a very effective channel of conversation.
India has told Pakistan that it wants normal neighborly relations with Islamabad in an environment free of terror, hostility and violence. New Delhi has said that it is Islamabad’s responsibility to create an environment free from terrorism and hostility.
Who is Moeed Yusuf?
Moeed Yusuf was appointed as the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Security Division and Strategic Policy Planning on 24 December 2019. He was also given the status of a Minister of State. He has worked in various think tanks in the US and has academic experience as well. Yusuf has also been an associate vice president at the Asia Center of the United States Institute of Peace (USIP). In addition, he has also been a Fellow Research at the Frederick S. Padry Center at Boston University. He is also the author of ‘Broking Peace in Nuclear Environment: US Crisis Management in South Asia’. Prior to this he did his PhD in Political Science from Boston University.
