Pakistan’s leading journalist Hamid Mir has been barred from reading news for criticizing the army. Actually, Hamid Mir had given a statement against the Pakistani Army in protest against the attack on another journalist. A few days after this incident, he was barred from speaking on his iconic show. In this way, it has been proved once again that Imran Khan’s government has bowed down to the pressure of the Pakistani army and has begun to break the fourth pillar of democracy.
Hamid Mir told news agency Al Jazeera that he is not hosting the upcoming ‘Capital Talk’ on Geo News from Monday evening. Mir said, I have only been told by the Jio management that I will not host the show. He said there is a lot of pressure (after the statements on the protests last week). He did not say from where this pressure is being generated. According to information received from sources, there is also pressure on Jio News to remove Hamid Mir from his job.
Journalist was beaten up last week
In fact, last week in the capital Islamabad, an independent Pakistani journalist Asad Ali Toor was beaten up by three unidentified people outside his house. Also warned that he should stop doing his work. This journalist is identified as a person criticizing the Pakistani Armed Forces. According to the police, Toor was tied up outside his residence in the upscale F-10 sector and beaten up badly late in the night. Toor is also a YouTuber.
What did Mir say about Imran’s government?
On Friday, Mir had threatened to reveal the identities of those responsible for the recent attacks on journalists in Pakistan in protest against the attack on Toor. He used many words about the connivance of the Pakistani Army and also named the Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa (Qamar Javed Bajwa). Mir said that if you are sneaking into our houses to attack us, then it is okay. We can’t enter your houses because you have tanks and guns. But we can make public the things happening inside your homes.
In 2014, unknown assailants had said that Hamid Mir was attacked.
In 2014, Hamid Mir hosted an episode of his program focused on alleged human rights violations by the military in the country’s southwestern Balochistan province. Soon after, unidentified assailants had fired on them, but Mir survived narrowly in this attack. The media in Pakistan has to bear the brunt of criticizing the government and army of Pakistan. Often journalists have to be victims of attacks in neighboring countries. Pakistan is also criticized all over the world for this.
