Such a hobby of fighting that lie told to join the army
Born in 1880, Adrian Carton was fond of going to the battlefield from the very beginning. In 1899, he left the school at the age of 19 and joined the British Army. Due to his age, he could not join the army, so he told himself 25 years of age. Deployed in South Africa for the Second Boer War. During this, there was a bullet on his stomach and below it. Because of this, he had to return to England. After this, he had to wait for nearly a decade to fight the war.
World War I started again
The first world war started in November 1914. Adrian Carton was pitted against the Somali leader Mohammed Abdullah Hasan, called ‘Mad Mulla’. During the attack, he was shot twice in the face. One eye and one part of the ear were gone. The British army won in the war. During this time, he was also shot in his hand. His answer was that he would have been injured, would have been treated in a hospital in England and then he would have jumped into the fight. Adrian Carton had a glass eye, but they threw him out of the taxi. Instead, he wore a black cloth.
Lost hands in war with Germany
In May 1915, Adrian Carton was sent to Ypres. Here the second war Germany bombarded ammunition. In this, his left hand went away. According to his biography ‘Happy Odyssey’, after the doctor’s refusal, he himself cut two fingers with his teeth and threw them. Later the surgeon had to amputate his hand. Despite this, his ability and passion did not diminish. According to the companions of Sir Adrian Carton, he used to throw the pin of the hand grenade from the teeth and throw it accurately.
Shot in the head, yet survived
In 1918, he was shot in the head from behind. Amazingly he still survived. After this, there was hardly any part of his body which was not injured. In 1919, he survived not one but two times in a plane crash. In 1920, enemies tried to hijack the train in which he was riding. But with the help of a revolver, he escaped from the enemy.
Return from retirement to compete with Hitler
In 1923, he retired with the rank of Major General. But unfortunately the second world war started. Sir Adrian Carton was ready to face Hitler and the Soviet Union again. At that time he was Poland, from where he had to flee back to Britain. At the age of 61, he was taken prisoner by the Italian army. To escape, he dug a 60-foot-long tunnel. However, despite many efforts, he could not succeed. He was subsequently assigned to the British Army under a treaty. In 1947, he finally retired from the British Army. In 1963, at the age of 83, he breathed his last at home.
