    'Hungry' student takes artwork from wall and eats it

    Some would say his paintings is sweet sufficient to eat – or maybe this was only a case of forbidden fruit.

    But Maurizio Cattelan turned the sufferer of his personal inventive greatness over the weekend after a hungry South Korean pupil ate a banana that was a part of one among his artwork installations.

    The paintings, known as Comedian, was a part of Mr Cattelan’s exhibition WE at Seoul’s Leeum Museum of Art, and consisted of a ripe banana duct-taped to a wall.

    Feeling peckish, artwork pupil Noh Huyn-soo, from Seoul National University, ripped the banana from the wall upon his go to to the museum, earlier than devouring it as a snack in entrance of shocked onlookers.

    He then taped the peel again onto the wall, with the museum later changing it with a recent banana.

    The incident was recorded by the coed’s pal and lasted greater than a minute.

    “The student told the museum he ate it because he was hungry,” a museum spokesperson instructed CNN.

    “It happened suddenly, so no special action was taken. The artist (Cattelan) was informed of the incident but he didn’t have any reaction to it,” the museum spokesperson added.

    Videos posted on-line present Mr Noh taking the banana off the wall earlier than shouts of “excuse me” could be heard.

    But he selected to not reply – as a substitute deciding to eat the fruity snack.

    Mr Noh later revealed he noticed Mr Cattelan’s work as a rise up in opposition to a sure authority.

    “There could be another rebellion against the rebellion,” he instructed KBS. “Damaging an artwork could also be seen as an artwork, I thought that would be interesting… Isn’t it taped there to be eaten?”

    When knowledgeable concerning the incident, Mr Cattelan stated, “No problem at all”.

    This is not the primary time somebody has thought Mr Cattelan’s paintings was ripe for choosing, with efficiency artist David Datuana selecting the banana on show on the Perrotin Gallery at Art Basel in Miami after the primary version of Comedian bought again in 2019.

    Mr Cattelan’s solo exhibition WE is working on the Seoul-based museum till 16 July, with the banana being often swapped out each two to 3 days.
