Huge Fire in Rohingya Refugee Camp in Bangladesh: On Monday, a huge fire broke out in the camp of Rohingya Refugees located in the northern part of Bangladesh, due to which hundreds of camps have been burnt. Due to which thousands of people have been forced to become homeless. This information has been given by the officials and witnesses. This fire has taken place in the evening at Balukhali Camp in Cox’s Bazar district. The fire spread rapidly and caught at least four blocks.
Mohammed Shamsud Duja, the additional commissioner of the government’s Refugee, Relief and Repatriation Commission, has informed that at least four units of firefighters are trying to control the fire. United Nations refugee agency spokeswoman Luis Donovan says firemen, relief and rescue teams and volunteers had arrived at the scene as soon as the incident was reported (Bangladesh Rohingya Refugees Crisis). He said, ‘So far the fire has engulfed the camps, health centers, distribution units and other places. Volunteers are helping the affected people.
Fire spread rapidly
So far there has been no news of the death of any refugee, but there is a fear that people may die and they may also get injured. Because the fire is very high (Bangladesh Rohingya Refugees Camp). Two refugees have said that the fire spread rapidly and continued through the night. Many videos and pictures of this incident have surfaced on social media. In which a large plume of smoke can be seen, due to which the sky is seen black. Along with this, a large number of people are also seen in the picture seeing the fire.
Rohingya had fled from Myanmar
Bangladesh is currently home to millions of Rohingya Muslims. A large number of these people had fled here from Myanmar in the year 2017. Then the army there tortured them a lot. The Rohingyas were massacred, their homes set on fire, and reports of rape of women were also revealed (Bangladesh Response to Rohingya Refugees). To escape from the army, these people fled from Myanmar and started living in its neighboring countries. Bangladesh has arranged camps for these people to stay here, but they want these people to return to Myanmar. Many attempts to repatriate under the joint agreement have not been successful because the Rohingya refugees have refused to return due to fear of the army.
