Hezbollah has fired rockets at Israel. Israel has also retaliated by attacking Lebanon with bombs and shells.
Israel Air Strike on Lebanon – symbolic picture
Lebanon’s extremist group Hezbollah has said that it fired rockets on Friday at Israeli targets near the border with the country. Hezbollah has said that this is a response to the Israeli air strikes on southern Lebanon a day earlier. The Israeli military has also confirmed the rocket attacks. The Israeli military said at least 10 rockets were fired from southern Lebanon towards Israel on Friday. Cross-border hostilities are seen increasing amid the ongoing tension with Iran.
Hezbollah says it has fired rockets at Israeli targets near the Lebanese border in response to air strikes in southern Lebanon earlier this day. Hezbollah said in a statement that it fired “dozens” of rockets into an “open field” near Israeli targets in the Shebaa farms area. However, apart from this, he did not give any information. At the same time, the Israeli military said that most of the rockets were shot down through Israel’s Iron Dome system. The remaining rockets fell into an open field. No loss of life or property has been reported so far.
Sirens started sounding due to air strikes
Israel’s Army Radio reported that the army retaliated with shells and cannon bombs towards parts of southern Lebanon controlled by the heavily armed Iran-backed Hezbollah group. It has been told that due to Lebanese rocket attacks, the sirens of air strikes in the Upper Galilee and Golan Heights in northern Israel started sounding. Both these parts were occupied by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war. A Lebanese security source said the rockets were fired from the al-Arkub area near the Lebanese city of Sheba.
Rockets fired two days ago
This is the third day in a row when hostilities are seen increasing due to cross-border attacks. Peace between the two sides has been maintained since 2006. In 2006, Israel and Hezbollah fought a month-long war. Two days ago, Israel also carried out an airstrike in retaliation due to rockets fired from Lebanon. Because of this, Israel’s dispute with Iran-backed Hezbollah deepened. Significantly, Iran has been accused of supplying weapons and money to Hezbollah so that the organization can attack in Israel. However, Iran has been denying the allegations against it.
