Witness in George Floyd case: Court hearing has started in the case of the death of black Jorge Floyd in America. Protests began across America after Floyd’s death, a victim of policeman’s brutality. Despite Corona, thousands of people took to the streets and the ‘Black Lives Matter’ campaign intensified. Now a female firefighter has narrated the incident of that day. She has also said that she will record her statement in the court.
A firearm worker in Minneapolis in the US told the court on Tuesday that he was barred from helping black George Floyd. She will again file a statement in the court on Wednesday. In May last year, white police officer Derek Chauvin choked Floyd’s neck with a knee. Genevi Hansen, a female firefighter, was one of those who stopped the policeman from doing so. She wept in court remembering that incident. She said that she could not help Floyd despite trying.
Even stopped helping
Hansen said, “One person was being killed there.” He also explained in detail about his emergency medical training. She said that she could provide therapy to George Floyd. But the policeman did not allow this to happen. Hansen was one of the eyewitnesses who witnessed the incident of Floyd’s death on 25 May.
Turned down pleas
One eyewitness after another told how Chauvin turned down his pleas to leave Floyd. These included the young woman who had made a video of Floyd’s arrest, which triggered protests across the country. 18-year-old Darnella Frazier said, ‘He didn’t care. It seemed that he is not taking care of what we are saying. Chauvin (45) is accused of pressing Floyd’s neck with his knee for nine minutes and 29 seconds, leading to his death.
Can be punished for 40 years
If proved to be the most serious charge against Chauvin, he could face a jail term of up to 40 years. Chauvin’s lawyer Eric Nelson argued, “Derek Chauvin did what was taught in his 19-year career.” Nelson said that crowds of people watching the incident around Chauvin and his fellow police personnel were becoming furious and Floyd was struggling not to be seated in the police car. The defense counsel also said that Chauvin was not responsible for Floyd’s death.
