Pentagon official David F. Hallway was quoted as saying that Pakistan has approved the use of its air and ground borders by the United States so that the United States can keep an eye on Afghanistan.

Pakistan US Bilateral Relations: After facing America’s indifference during Trump’s tenure, Pakistan has started making many changes as soon as the Biden Administration comes. Now Pakistan wants to start a new bilateral relationship with the US, which is not based on defense or security but on economy and trade. Pakistan’s new National Security Advisor Moeed Yusuf has spoken to his American counterpart in Geneva, Jake Sullivan.
During this, he presented a blueprint for relationships. According to ‘The Express Tribune’ report, sources related to the case say that as far as relations with the US are concerned, Pakistan is making a significant change in its stand (Pakistan Presents Blueprint to UN). Apart from this, a news has also come that the US wants to keep an eye on South West Asian countries with the help of Pakistan. After the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, the US is preparing to build an airbase in Balochistan to maintain its presence here.
Pakistani government gave a statement
While on one hand it is being said that work has started on the airbase project. For this, Air Force officials and local administration have visited Nautal in Nasirabad. On the other hand, the Government of Pakistan has said that there is no such plan (US Pakistan Relations). Pakistan has rejected the US presence in Balochistan or the claim of building an airbase there. The AFP quoted Pengatan official David F. Hallway as saying that Pakistan has given permission to the US to use its air and ground borders so that the US can keep an eye on Afghanistan.
Why are these changes happening?
In January 2018, former US President Donald Trump suspended defense cooperation to Pakistan. He said that he is not satisfied with Pakistan’s cooperation and its role in the fight against terrorism. This is the reason why Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan formed a top committee in March to formulate a new strategy on relations with America. With this, the National Security Advisor of the country has also been changed. Now it has to be seen what kind of decisions the US takes in view of its relationship with India and Pakistan’s growing close with China.
