France elections: The results of the French local elections have shown that the people of France have not shown much interest in the right-wing ideological parties.
President Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen
France’s right-wing National Rally (RN) party has failed to win its first region. The results of the second round of local elections held in the country are out. Marine Le Pen’s party RN intended to win in the province of Alpes-Cte d’Azur. The candidate of Marine’s party lost to the centrist Republican candidate. These elections have also been disappointing for President Emmanuel Macron. In the local elections, this time only 30 percent voter turnout was recorded.
Emmanuel Macron’s centrist party ‘La République en Marche’ (LREM) has also not been able to win in any area. It also did poorly in the first round of elections held last week. This was the first time President Macron’s party took part in regional elections, as it did not exist when it was last held in 2015. Marine Le Pen, on the other hand, wants to win the French mainland for the first time to boost her hopes for the 2022 presidential election.
Marine Le Pen accuses opponents of forming ‘unnatural alliance’
However, preliminary results have shown that the French public has not shown much interest in right-wing ideological parties. Rather, the public trust is towards the parties with centrist and leftist ideology. Regarding the disappointment in the election, Marine Le Pen said that his opponents formed an unnatural alliance to prevent his party from winning. The Marines said that these people have done everything they can to stop us from taking over the leadership of the local administration.
Disappointing elections for right-wing parties
President Macron’s party is already on the sidelines in these elections, as it did poorly in the first round. Last Sunday, Marine Le Pen’s party also performed poorly. However, he expected his party to win in at least one region. Through this, he would have got some support for the presidential election. But this did not happen and voters kept their distance from him. Overall, these elections have been extremely disappointing for the right-wing parties.
