An Australian former skilled surfer has died after allegedly being punched within the face outdoors a pub.
Chris Davidson, 45, hit his head on the pavement after being struck within the city of South West Rocks in New South Wales on Saturday.
Paramedics discovered him unconscious in Sportsmans Way simply after 11pm and rushed him to Kempsey Hospital however he couldn’t be saved.
A 42-year-old man was arrested within the city round 12.40am on Sunday and was later charged with assault inflicting loss of life.
He was denied bail and was resulting from seem at Port Macquarie Bail Court on Sunday.
Specialist forensic officers had been despatched to look at the crime scene, New South Wales police mentioned in a press release.
Sydney-born Davidson competed within the males’s world browsing championship tour in 2010, when he was ranked 14th total, and in 2011.
Affectionately referred to as “Davo”, he famously beat reigning world champion Kelly Slater in two consecutive heats in 1996 after being granted a wildcard entry within the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach.
Slater, who has been topped World Surf League (WSL) Champion a file eleven instances, paid tribute to Davidson writing on Instagram: “Had many a good battle with this guy. One of the most naturally talented surfers I knew.”
The WSL mentioned the “surfing community at large” is saddened by the tragedy.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends,” it wrote in an Instagram put up.
