Former Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain passed away here on Wednesday after a prolonged illness. His family and party leaders have given this information. He was 80 years old. Hussain was born in 1940 in Agra. He immigrated to Pakistan with his parents in 1947. He was the 12th President of Pakistan from September 2013 to September 2018.
Dawn newspaper quoted Sindh Additional General Secretary of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chaudhry Tariq as saying that the PML-N leader was diagnosed with cancer in February last year. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital here for a few days, where he breathed his last.

President Arif Alvi expressed regret over Hussain’s death. PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif also expressed grief over Hussain’s death. He said on Twitter, ‘Today, we have lost a precious man who loved Pakistan and had a good character.’ Shahbaz said, ‘His devotion to the country will be remembered for a long time.’ Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi tweeted, ‘My deepest condolences on the passing of former President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain. May Allah give strength to his family to bear this great loss. The Pakistan Army has also expressed grief by tweeting on his death.

A Karachi-based textile businessman, Hussain was associated with the Muslim League in the 1970s and 1980s and has been an active member of the PML-N since its early days. He was the governor of Sindh from June to October 1999 when the then Pakistan Army Chief General Pervez Musharraf overthrew the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
