The attacker has been identified as 19-year-old Brendan Scott Hole of Indiana. He allegedly shot himself after firing.
The firing took place on Friday in Indianapolis, US.
Four Sikh community members are also among those who died in the firing two days before in the FedEx company of Indiana province of America. There are three women among them. A total of eight people were killed in this incident. Shocked by the incident, the Sikh community has appealed to US President Joe Biden to rein in the increasing incidents of crime and violence fueled by racial hatred. The gunman has been identified as 19-year-old Brendan Scott Hole of Indiana, who allegedly shot himself after firing late Thursday night at the FedEx Company campus in Indianapolis. Hole was a FedEx employee in 2020. According to the FBI, Hol’s mother phoned the agency last year and said that her son could take suicidal steps, after which the FBI questioned Hol.
Foreign Minister Jaishankar expressed grief
Foreign Minister S Jaishankar expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He said in a tweet, ‘I am shocked by the firing incident at the FedEx Foundation in Indianapolis. People from the Indian Sikh community are among the dead. Our Indian consulate in Chicago is also in contact with the mayor and local officials and community leaders in Indianapolis. We will provide all possible help. At the same time, the Indian Consul General in Chicago, Amit Kumar spoke to the Mayor of Indianapolis, Joe Hogsett, who has assured all possible help. More than 90 percent of the employees working in this campus of the delivery service provider company are said to be Indian citizens of Indian origin, mostly from the Sikh community.
Sikh community hurt by attack
Gurinder Singh Khalsa, the leader of the Sikh community, told PTI over phone after meeting the relatives of the employees of the FedEx campus that it is very sad. The Sikh community is hurt by this tragic incident. The Marion County Coroner’s Office and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) revealed the names of the dead late Friday. The dead include Amarjeet Johal (66), Jaswinder Kaur (64), Amarjeet (48) and Jaswinder Singh (68) of the Sikh community. The other dead include Carly Smith, Alexander Matt, Samaria Blackwell and John White. Another Sikh community man Harpreet Singh Gill (45) was shot near the eye and is currently in the hospital.
