On Tuesday, one person was killed and two were injured in a shooting at a grocery store in West Hempstead, America. Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said a man involved in the shootings worked in the store, who is absconding. Rider said that the incident happened at around 11 am in the manager’s office on the first floor of ‘Shop and Shop’ in West Hampstead. He said that a large number of people were present inside the shops at the time of the firing.
Rider said that the names of the victims have not yet been made public. The 49-year-old man who died from bullet injuries was an employee of the shop. At the same time, people who have been shot, are currently in the hospital. He said that the person who carried out the incident has been identified as 30-year-old Grabiel Dewitt Wilson. So far it has not been clear whether he currently works in the shop or not.
Police is stationed outside the store
Addressing reporters in a parking lot, Ryder said, Wilson was wearing black clothes and had a small gun in his hands. After escaping the incident, he escaped from the Hampstead Turnpike Roadway. In the video that appeared after the shooting, it can be seen that the police car and ambulance are standing in front of the shop. Police officers have taken big guns and a yellow bandage has been put around the scene.
Shop closed until further order
The school near the spot has been told not to allow visitors to enter the school. Also, local people have been asked to stay indoors. West Hampstead is about 30 miles (50 kilometers) near the Queens-Nassau County border and east of Midtown Manhattan. Gordon Reid, president of ‘Shop and Shop’, issued a statement saying that the company was shocked and saddened by the incident. He said, our consolation is with the families, employees, colleagues and customers. The shop has been closed until further orders.
