People troubled by heat in America
People in America are facing the heat wave in US. Day temperatures are being recorded in excess of 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37 degrees Celsius) due to the heat wave affecting the Pacific Northwest region. The National Meteorological Service has described this summer as intense, long, record-breaking, unprecedented, unusual and dangerous. During the day the temperature is increasing so much that the Olympic qualifying competitions are getting disrupted. In addition, temperatures are rising in areas that are not accustomed to such summers. The highest temperature in these areas has broken all records.
Portland, Oregon, recorded a temperature of 112 degrees Fahrenheit (44.4 Celsius) on Sunday, breaking the record 108 degrees Fahrenheit (42.2 Celsius) set a day earlier. The US Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon, had to be halted on Sunday afternoon and fans were asked to evacuate the stadium due to the extreme heat. The National Weather Service said a temperature of 110 F (43.3 ° C) was recorded in Eugene, breaking the record for the highest ever temperature of 108 ° F (42.2 ° C).
The areas where there used to be rain, there was also the havoc of heat
Orregaon’s capital city of Salem on Sunday recorded the highest temperature in history at 112 degrees Fahrenheit (44.4 degrees Celsius), four notches above the previous record. The temperature in Seattle was recorded at 104 degrees Fahrenheit (40 degrees Celsius). The Meteorological Department said this was a record high temperature for a city better known for its rains. At the same time, this was the first time since the record was kept in 1894 that the temperature in the region was recorded in three digits for two consecutive days. Records have been broken across the region and these temperatures are expected to rise further on Monday, which may start decreasing by Tuesday.
Heat wave seen in Canada too
Electricity also went out in some places during the hot summer days. The heat wave continued as far as British Columbia, where the village of Lighton in the Canadian province recorded a temperature of 115 Fahrenheit (46.1 Celsius) on Sunday afternoon, the highest temperature ever recorded in Canada. A heat warning is in effect for much of western Canada, and the city’s weather agency said several daily temperature records are being broken. These cities are telling residents to keep drinking water, take care of their neighbors and not do too much physical activity, and places where pools and cooling centers are available.
