Woburn (USA)Letter sent by an American soldier stationed in Germany to his mother in Massachusetts after the end of World War II, delivered 76 years later to the wife of an army sergeant. WFXT-TV reported on Wednesday that after World War II officially ended in December 1945, then 22-year-old Army Sergeant John Gonsalves wrote a letter to his mother living in Woburn. The letter, received by the US Postal Service Delivery Facility (USPS) in Pittsburgh, had been closed for more than 75 years.
The letter read, “Dear Mother, got another letter from you today and I am happy that all is well. As far as I am concerned, I am fine too..but the food is mostly very bad. He put his signature at the end of the letter and wrote, “Aapko Pyaar Hai…. Your son Johnny. Hope to see you soon.”

Army Sergeant John Gonsalves died in 2015 and his mother has also passed away. The USPS, however, traced Gonsalves’ wife Angelina and handed her the letter. About five years after writing the letter, Gonsalves met his wife. Along with this letter, the USPS also sent a letter on its behalf to the family of Gonsalves, which read, “It is very important for us to send this letter.”
Gonsalves’ family, after receiving the letter, called the USPS and thanked them. “Imagine those 70 years,” Angelina told WFXT-TV. I can not believe it. His handwriting and everything is amazing.” Angelina Gonsalves, 89, said receiving her letter after her husband’s death, “as if he had returned…”.
