Great Fire of Valparaiso in Chile: The people of Chile have not forgotten the Great Fire of Valparaiso even today. Thousands of people were rendered homeless by that fire on the mountains in the town of Valparaiso here. It is said that this fire in the forests was so severe that at least 2500 houses were completely destroyed, 11 thousand people became homeless and 6 thousand people had to leave the city. A red alert was issued in the area and it was declared a disaster zone. This fire started on the same day i.e. on 12 April (12 April History) in the year 2014.
15 people were killed and 10 were seriously injured from Russia. The Chilean police began an investigation to find out the cause of the fire in the Valparaiso forests. Police then believed that the fire started south of Camino La Polvora and southwest of Parque del Puerto. (Wildfire in Chile). Officials of ONEMI (the Chilean government agency handling emergency cases in the country) said, ‘There is no doubt that the fire started due to the intervention of a third party’.
The birds were told the reason
One reason behind the fire was also being told that it may have happened due to the birds coming in contact with the electrical transmission cable. But when the electricity provider company investigated it later, it denied any such news. The company said that the chance of fire due to black vulture or any other bird is very less. The fire started in the Camino La Polvora area at 4.40 pm on the evening of April 12. Initially, the local government of Valparaiso, ONEMI and CONAF (Corporation National Forest) had declared a red alert.
Many houses were engulfed in flames
Even after many attempts, the fire remained uncontrolled. Which hit many homes. In view of the situation, the government of Chile had declared Valparaiso Disaster Zone. Which was later expanded further. The Chilean army started overseeing the area. He took care of the safety of the people and worked to maintain law and order. Many areas of the city were also evacuated. During the fire in the forest itself, electricity was lost in many places in the city. Due to which the fire became more difficult to control. Taking advantage of the darkness, the thieves looted a lot of loot in the damaged houses. This fire is said to be the deadliest accident in the history of the city. Later, similar incidents of fire have been seen from here onwards.
