The health effect of covid is much more than the flu. One in ten people still feel sick 12 weeks after infection

The symptoms of COVID-19 such as fever, cough, pain, they are similar to flu, so these two diseases are being compared. Britain’s new Health Minister Sajid Javid recently said, ‘We have to learn to accept the existence of COVID and find ways to deal with it – the same way we deal with the flu. ‘
Have we chosen the wrong disease to compare to COVID-19? We believe that seasonal flu is such an infection that everyone falls prey to it. Against this we vaccinate only those who may have complications and treat those who may have serious side effects such as pneumonia. Otherwise the rest of the people continue to work normally. Around 400,000 people die each year from flu-related diseases worldwide.
more deadly than the flu
We will have to find a way to live with covid, but statistics show that we have a long way to go before we can treat it like the flu. Since the beginning of 2020, more than 180 million cases of corona virus have been reported worldwide and at least 40 lakh people have died. Apart from this, we are not even aware of the real long-term effect of COVID even though its long-lasting symptoms are similar.
The biggest mistake is to think of corona as flu
It is certain that COVID-19 is more contagious. We can say this for sure because in the last 18 months, due to the efforts to control COVID, the cases of flu have come down to zero, but these efforts have not been as effective in preventing the spread of corona virus. In the southern hemisphere in mid-2020, there were almost no cases of flu during the winter.
In Europe and North America, flu cases were negligible between November 2020 and March 2021. Countries like South Africa and Britain, where the rate of corona virus infection was high, have rarely reported any flu cases. This suggests that commonly used methods to deal with the flu have a different effect on COVID-19. In such a situation, the result of treating COVID-19 like flu will be more cases and more deaths.
Similarities Between Norovirus and Coronavirus
There are some similarities between the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the influenza virus responsible for COVID-19. Because of this, we are inspired to make comparisons between them. About 20 percent of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 do not show symptoms and many people infected with the flu virus do not get sick. Both viruses keep changing form. The elderly, people with weakened immunity are at higher risk of becoming seriously ill from both viruses.
All these features are also in ‘Norovirus’. Many times symptoms are not seen in people suffering from this and this virus also changes its form rapidly. Different forms of norovirus have been found in the same hospital. When norovirus spreads, it changes form many times so frequently and so rapidly that even standard testing kits cannot detect its every form.
Prepare like norovirus
Symptoms caused by norovirus include vomiting, diarrhea. In such a situation, it comes to the surfaces of the surface. It also infects others. Some people suffering from COVID also have the same symptoms. Therefore, flu is not the only virus disease to which COVID can be compared. We have to be prepared to face the waves of COVID in the coming years and plan to deal with them.
Knowing this, we have to control SARS-CoV-2 not like flu but like norovirus. People suffering from norovirus are isolated from others, they are also treated separately. Treating health workers wear PPE kits and surfaces are thoroughly cleaned. This is how we will have to deal with COVID-19 in future. So it would be like living with norovirus, not the flu.
