In South Africa, the delta variant of Coronavirus has increased new cases in a tremendous way. Because of this, the country’s President Cyril Ramaphosa has reimposed the corona restrictions for two weeks, to prevent the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant. Addressing the country on Sunday, the President said that South Africa is witnessing a huge increase in new cases of infection. South Africa is the worst affected country in the continent of Africa by Corona.
President Cyril Ramaphosa said, “Our health facilities have reached their peak. There is a shortage of ICU beds. He said that South Africa was put on alert at level four. This is one level less than implementing a complete lockdown. Addressing the country, Ramaphosa said, the third wave is gaining momentum. He said that all public gatherings will be banned for two weeks. During this, only funerals will be allowed, but not more than 50 people will be able to attend them. He appealed to the people to wear masks and maintain social distance.
27 lakh people got vaccinated in the country
The South African President said that the rate of vaccination in the country is gradually gaining momentum. By Sunday, 2.7 million people in South Africa had received a single dose of the vaccine. More than 9,50,000 of South Africa’s 1.2 million health care workers have been vaccinated. He said that the supply of vaccines of ‘Johnson & Johnson’ and ‘Pfizer’ is increasing. South Africa aims to vaccinate 67 percent of its 60 million people by February 2022. So far it is believed that vaccination is the only weapon to control the virus.
60 thousand people died of corona in the country
More than 15,000 new cases of infection were reported in South Africa on Sunday and 122 more people died. So far, about 60,000 people have died due to infection in the country. Many provinces of the country are facing a shortage of beds in hospitals. Cases are also increasing rapidly in Zimbabwe, Namibia and Mozambique. Health officials said that the delta variant is responsible for the third wave of the virus in the country. At the same time, World Health Organization (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that the delta variant is by far the most infectious variant. He told that this variant has reached 85 countries.
