Covid Virus Variants: The World Health Organization (WHO) has named two variants of the corona virus B.1.617.1 and B.1.617.2. Now the B.1.617.1 variant will be called ‘Kappa’ and the B.1.617.2 variant will be called ‘Delta’. Both these variants were first found in India. The World Health Organization on Monday named both these variants Kappa and Delta as variants of the corona virus are being named Greek Alphabets. Giving information about this announcement, WHO’s Technical COVID-19 Chief Dr Maria Van Kerkhove said that there has been no change in the scientific names of Variants of Concern (VOCs) and Viruses of Interest (VOIs) of Corona virus. , It will be easy in its public discussion with new names.

Naming three weeks after objection to ‘Indian Variant’
The decision by the WHO to name two new variants of the corona virus as Delta and Kappa came about three weeks after India’s objection. The Union Health Ministry had objected to the B.1.617 variant of the corona virus being called the Indian variant in several media reports, stating that the WHO has not used the word ‘Indian’ for this strain in any of its documents.
The UN health agency said on Monday that an expert group had advocated labeling Greek alphabets such as alpha, beta and gamma to make it easier for non-scientists to refer to.
Cases reduced by 49.39% in 22 days in the country
Corona infects are rapidly recovering across the country. In the last 22 days, the active cases have come down from 37.45 lakhs to 18.95 lakhs, which means that 49.39 per cent cases have come down. As on 10 May 2021, there were 37,45,237 active cases in the country which have now come down to 18,95,520. In the last 24 hours, 1,30,572, people have been cured. According to the data released by the Union Health Ministry till 8 am on June 1, 2021, 2,59,47,629 cases have been reported across the country, of which 2,55,287 lakh cases have been reported in the last 24 hours. So far 3,31,895 i.e. 1.18 percent people have died due to Koran virus. In the last 24 hours, 2795 people died due to corona.
