The Canadian government has extended the ban on direct flights from India for another 30 days. This ban was supposed to end on July 21, but now it will remain in force till August 21. This is the fourth time the ban has been extended since Canada was first imposed on April 22, due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and the increasing infection of the delta variant of the coronavirus.
A release from Health Canada on Monday said the extension of the ban was based on public health advice. Along with this, Canada has also increased the requirement related to third country pre-departure COVID-19 test for passengers going from India to Canada through the indirect route. Passengers from India connecting at the second point of departure for Canada will require a mandatory pre-departure COVID negative RT-PCR test before continuing their journey to Canada. This announcement comes after Canada announced measures to ease travel restrictions in the country.
Canada said it would open its borders from September 7 to any fully vaccinated travelers who had received a Canada-approved vaccine at least 14 days before entering Canada, if the coronavirus situation in the country remained well. Those who have completed a full course of vaccination with Govt. and who meet specific entry requirements.
Even fully vaccinated passengers do not need tests from August 9
As a first step, fully vaccinated U.S. citizens and permanent residents will be allowed to enter the country for non-essential travel on August 9, as long as they’ve at least two years before entering Canada. Have completed your vaccination 14 days ago. Fully vaccinated passengers will also not require a post-arrival test from August 9.
