Antony Blinken Meets Dalai Lama Representative: China has reacted strongly to the meeting of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken with the representative of Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama in New Delhi, India. It said it violated America’s commitment to recognize Tibet as part of China and not support Tibet’s independence. Blinken on Wednesday met with Ngodup Dongchung, a Tibetan government-in-exile official and Dalai Lama’s representative, in a clear signal to China that the Biden administration will continue to support the Tibet issue.
At the meeting, Dongchung thanked Blinken for the US’s continued support to the Tibet movement (China Dalai Lama US). When asked in this regard, a US State Department spokesman said, “The Secretary of State had a brief meeting with the representative of His Excellency the Dalai Lama, Ngodup Dongchung, the representative of the Central Tibetan Administration in New Delhi this morning.” In addition, other Tibetan representatives attended a round table meeting organized by Geishi Dorji Damdul Blinkal with seven members of the civil society.
Told Tibet an internal matter
During a press briefing here, when state media sought a response from China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian, he said, “The Tibet issue is purely an internal matter of China, in which foreign interference is not allowed.” Is.’ “The 14th Dalai Lama is by no means a religious figure but a political exile, who has long engaged in anti-China separatist activities and attempts to separate Tibet from China,” he said. He said that China strongly opposes all contact between foreign officials and the Dalai Lama.
China appeals to America
“Any formal contact between the United States and the Dalai bloc violates America’s commitment to recognize Tibet as part of China and not to support Tibet’s independence and efforts to separate it from China,” he said. “We urge the United States not to interfere in China’s internal affairs in the name of Tibet, and to honor its commitment not to cooperate with the forces of Tibetan independence in anti-China activities,” Zhao said. Whenever foreign dignitaries or officials meet the Dalai Lama or his representatives, China gives a similar response.
