Based on the Xinhua report, the Global Times said that this report focused on how Chinese officials and soldiers, including Chen Hongjun, lost their lives in the Galwan clash in 2020.
Chen Hongjun had also lost his life in a clash with four Chinese soldiers.
It said that the 33-year-old Battalion Commander Chen Hongjun, along with four other comrades, sacrificed his life in June 2020 in the Galwan Valley along with his four other comrades in the border confrontation with India. All these people were stationed on the Karakoram Mountains with the Xinjiang Military Command of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). More Chinese soldiers died than claimed by China
In February this year, China admitted for the first time that four PLA soldiers were killed in the skirmish. This was accepted by China at a time when India and China were retreating from the southern and northern banks of Pangong Tso Lake. However, Indian defense and security sources believe that the death toll is much higher than the official claim made by China. This is because during various levels of talks with India, Chinese officials informally gave conflicting figures of soldiers killed in the Galwan violence.
