Washington: US President Joe Biden said he told his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping that it would never be right to bet against the American people. He said the Biden administration has already made it clear that the most effective American way of long-term counteracting a more obstinate and authoritarian China is investing in its people, economy and democracy.
In his first State of the Union (President’s Annual Address to Parliament) address on Tuesday night, Biden said, “I told Xi Jinping that it would never be right to bet against the American people.” We will create decent jobs, modernize roads, airports, seaports and waterways for millions of Americans.”
Biden said the country would set up a network of five million charging stations to charge electric vehicles, begin replacing pipes made of toxic lead to supply clean water to every child and every American at home. and every American, whether from an urban, semi-urban, rural or tribal community, will be provided with high-speed Internet access at an affordable cost. “Four thousand projects have already been announced. Declaring this decade as the Decade of Infrastructure, Biden said that it will give us the right direction to transform America and win the economic competition the country is facing from the world in the 21st century, especially from China.
The president insisted that his administration would buy American equipment to ensure that everything from aircraft carriers to steel guards used to build highways were made in the US. “But we also need equal opportunities from China and other competitors to compete on the best jobs of the future,” he added. “That’s why it’s important that Congress pass the Innovation Act, which will lead to record investment in emerging technologies and American production,” the president said.
