March 23 is the 90th death anniversary of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev. But events are not allowed to be organized in his memory in Punjab province.
The court has been approached for permission. Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation President Rashid Qureshi has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court for not allowing the event to be organized by the provincial government. The Punjab government said that the program cannot be allowed due to COVID-19. Rajguru, Sukhdev and Bhagat Singh were hanged on 23 March 1931 in Lahore by the British government in the Saunders massacre. Qureshi filed a petition in the court seeking permission to organize the event at Shadman Chowk here to pay tribute to the three freedom fighters.
Also demanded security
Rashid Qureshi has also demanded strict security in the program. He assured the court that the COVID-19 guidelines will be fully followed during the program. In this petition, he has sought answers from the Government of Punjab, Chief Secretary of Punjab, Home Secretary, Director General of Police and Lahore Police Chief.
The message of peace will go through such an event
Qureshi says that the government should not cancel such programs. The government should encourage such programs because it will send a message of peace on the border. He told that his foundation wants to install the statue of Bhagat Singh at Shadman Chowk. He has hanged at this square 90 years ago.
They have also demanded an apology from the Queen of Britain
The Foundation has earlier demanded a pardon from the Queen of Britain for the judicial murder of the three freedom fighters. It also demanded compensation for all three families. The Foundation also appealed to the Imran government to change the name of Shadman Chowk to Bhagat Singh Chowk. Not only this, three big roads of Lahore were also named after Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.
