AstraZeneca Claims Its Vaccine is 76 Percent Effective: AstraZeneca Coronavirus Vaccine formulated against AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 has been in the news for some time. Britain and Sweden pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca on Wednesday said that its vaccine is highly effective, amid rebuke from US authorities. AstraZeneca said in a late-night press release that it recalculated the study’s data and came to the conclusion that the vaccine is up to 76 percent effective in cases of coronavirus infection that have symptoms of infection.
In a study conducted earlier this week, it claimed the vaccine to be 79% effective (AstraZeneca and Oxford Vaccine). The day before, an independent committee analyzing the study accused AstraZeneca of hiding the data (AstraZeneca COVID Vaccine). The committee said in a strong letter to the company and US health officials that the company has dropped some COVID-19 cases mentioned in the study.
Will the dispute end now?
Disputes over data in studies are usually kept confidential, but the National Institutes of Health took an unexpected step, publicly asking AstraZeneca to correct the discrepancies. Now the question is whether the new calculation of the company will end the tension. On Wednesday, America’s infectious disease specialist Dr. Anthony Fauchi told reporters that he hoped the controversy would end when federal regulators examined all the data publicly (AstraZeneca Blood Clot). He speculated that it would prove to be a good vaccine.
European countries banned
On AstraZeneca’s vaccine, it was alleged that people applying it are facing the problem of blood clotting. Due to which many people have also died (AstraZeneca Ban in Europe). After which many countries of Europe had temporarily banned the use of vaccine. But later the European Medicine Agency (EMA) of the European Union said that the vaccine is completely effective and safe. After which some countries of Europe said that they will soon start using the vaccine again.
