US Says its Embssy Staff to Leave Kabul: The US has ordered non-essential employees to leave their Kabul embassy. The reason behind this has been told by the US that there is an ever increasing danger. The US is preparing to end the war that has been going on in Afghanistan for the past 20 years and is returning troops from here (US Embssy Staff in Kabul). The order comes after US President Joe Biden announced two weeks ago that there were currently 2500 US troops who would leave the country (Afghanistan) by September.
US Special Representative in Afghanistan, Zalmi Khalizad, has warned in a Senate hearing that if the Taliban-dominated government does not respect human rights, US aid can be scrapped (US and Afghanistan War). The State Department has said in its travel advisory that it has ordered the departure of those US government employees working in the US embassy in Kabul, who can do their work elsewhere.
Why this decision was taken?
US Ambassador to Kabul Ross Wilson has said that the State Department has taken this decision in view of the news of increasing violence and intimidation in Kabul. He said that work will continue in the embassy as before and this order will be applicable to a small number of employees (US and Afghanistan Relations). Wilson said on Twitter, “Employees who are urgently needed due to the issue of withdrawal of US troops and who are doing important work for the people of Afghanistan will remain there.” US Central Command chief General Kenneth McKenzie had said earlier on Tuesday that his administration is committed to having an executive embassy in Kabul.
Troops return by september
He had said, ‘Our intention is to maintain the embassy in Afghanistan. But the presence of our soldiers there is going to be very less, which is also important for the defense of the embassy. (US and Afghanistan Conflict) Earlier this month, US President Joe Biden said that he would withdraw all US troops from Afghanistan by September 11. This is the time when it will be 20 years for those attacks, due to which America entered into this war and toppled Taliban rule. Biden also said that American soldiers have achieved their objectives by staying there.
