India has indirectly warned India about the purchase of S-400 Missile System. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has said that if India buys this missile system from Russia, then it can be banned. Austin, who visited India, said that he had no discussion with his counterpart Rajnath Singh in this regard. Austin, however, urged all US allies and partners to refrain from buying Russian equipment that could lead to US sanctions.
Austin said in response to a question in the media, “There is no supply of the S-400 system and hence the issue of sanctions was not a matter of discussion.” He said that there was no reason to discuss the sanctions because India has not achieved the system. The US has imposed sanctions on Turkey for procuring the S-400 missile system from Russia. Austin said, “We have countries with which we work from time to time with Russian equipment.”
US Defense Minister said this
The US Defense Minister said, “Of course we urge all our allies and partners to stay away from Russian equipment and avoid any kind of acquisition.” This can lead to a ban on our part. Prior to Austin’s visit to India, the chairman of the Senate’s powerful committee on foreign affairs and Senator Robert Mendez wrote a letter to the US defense minister requesting them to raise the issue of the purchase of the S-400 missile defense system to Indian leaders.
India-Russia $ 50 million deal
India is buying it from Russia. For this, in October 2018, a five billion dollar deal was signed with Russia. Austin held extensive talks with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday. During this time, both sides resolved to further strengthen Indo-US defense relations. Austin later met S Jaishankar. The S-400 Air Defense Missile System can take down any enemy aircraft in the air. This ground-to-air hit system is considered one of Russia’s strongest weapons. It is capable of shooting down not only aircraft but also cruise and ballistic missiles.
