Xinjiang Forced Labour Bill: America has given the biggest blow to China so far. A bill has been passed in the Senate here, under which all products coming from Xinjiang have been banned. The US says that China is targeting Uighurs and other Muslim organizations living in the region (Xinjiang Forced Labor Companies US Senate Passed Bill). After which this big step has been taken against China. The Uighur Forced Labor Prevention Act has been passed under the 1930 Tariff Act. Now this bill will be sent to the House of Representatives.
It will then be sent to the White House for President Joe Biden’s signature, so that it can become law. It is not yet clear how long it can be sent to Biden. Republican Senator Marco Rubio introduced the bill along with Democratic leader Jeff Merkley (US Bans all Products from Xinjiang). He asked the House to respond immediately. “We cannot turn a blind eye to the crimes against humanity being committed by the CCP,” Rubio said in a statement. Nor can we give free passes to any corporation to take advantage of these terrible tortures.’
China makes minorities do forced labor
US officials say that China tortures the minorities of Xinjiang and makes them forced to work. Then whatever material is ready, it exports it. Merkly said, ‘No American corporation should profit from these torture goods (Xinjiang Forced Labor Bill). American consumers should not even unknowingly buy these products made by forced labor.’ Democratic and Republican leaders said they expected the measure to have strong support in the House, noting that the House had almost unanimously approved a similar measure last year.
Large stake in global supply chain
Human rights groups, researchers, former residents and Western politicians and other officials say Uighurs and other Muslim minorities have been detained and forced into forced labor in Xinjiang since 2016. Xinjiang’s products have a major share in the global supply chain (Xinjiang Forced Labor Report). America’s Biden administration has significantly increased sanctions against China in recent weeks. Many Chinese companies have also been blacklisted. These companies are accused of involvement in the genocide and having links with the Chinese military.
