Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi called his Afghan counterpart Mohammad Haneef Atmar on Monday. During this, he assured to take all necessary steps to arrest the culprits involved in the kidnapping of the daughter of the Ambassador of Afghanistan. Radio Pakistan quoted Qureshi as saying that the Ministry of External Affairs is fully aware of the diplomatic norms and the security of the Afghan Embassy and Consulate in Pakistan has been further beefed up.
Qureshi assured the Afghan foreign minister that Pakistan would take all possible steps to arrest the accused and bring the victims to justice at the earliest. The Pakistani Foreign Minister said that we hope that the Afghan government will review its decision to withdraw its ambassador and senior diplomats from Pakistan keeping in mind the sincere efforts of Pakistan. The report said the Afghan foreign minister thanked Prime Minister Imran Khan for his personal interest in the investigation and appreciated Qureshi’s efforts to increase security at the Afghan embassy and consulate.
Why did the diplomatic crisis between Pakistan and Afghanistan deepen?
The diplomatic crisis between Pakistan and Afghanistan deepened on Sunday. In fact, Kabul had announced the withdrawal of its ambassador and other senior employees from Islamabad. Silsila Alikhil, the 26-year-old daughter of Afghanistan’s ambassador to Pakistan Najibullah Alikhil, was kidnapped by unidentified men in Islamabad on Friday. After that he tortured and beat her. Silsila was kidnapped while riding a hired vehicle and held hostage for several hours before being released. She was found near the F-9 Park area of the capital and had injury marks on her body.
Imran ordered an inquiry
Pakistan’s Foreign Office said in a statement the same night that the kidnapping and attack on the daughter of the Afghan ambassador was being investigated. Investigation is being done at a high level on the instructions of Prime Minister Imran Khan. On the other hand, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid told Geo TV on Sunday that the entire incident of kidnapping was the result of an international racket to defame Pakistan. “She (the ambassador’s daughter) had gone to Rawalpindi of her own free will. We have CCTV footage. This is a conspiracy.
