Afghan Refugees in Pakistan Demands Money: In the southern province of Pakistan, Afghan Refugees are living in very odd conditions. They have now demanded from the Pakistan Government that they should be given money instead of vaccine. Refugees have said that the Coronavirus has not yet reached their camps, so they should not need the Corona Vaccines. Representatives of Afghan refugees also said that they have not received any information related to vaccination so far.
Some people have also claimed that the virus has not reached the camp yet. According to a media report, about 14 lakh Afghan refugees live in 54 Refuges in Pakistan located in Pakistan. A large number of these people live in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan Province. Both these provinces share the border with Pakistan. Apart from this, arrangements for refugees have also been made in cities like Karachi and Islamabad.
Many restrictions in Islamabad
In Islamabad, these people are prohibited from buying property, vehicles and SIM cards. These people also cannot enroll in government schools and universities. Even the hospitalists do not admit pregnant Afghan women to the hospital because they cannot give birth certificate to the child born. In such a situation, these refugees are like a challenge every day (Afghan Refugees in Pakistan Current Situation). It is also said that millions of refugees are living here without any documents.
Pakistan against refugees
In the year 2017 itself, a human rights report claimed that Pakistan is taking violent steps to harass these people. The government of Pakistan started a campaign to expel these refugees from here due to fear of deteriorating relations with the Afghan government (Fresh News About Afghan Refugees in Pakistan). “No one has approached us regarding vaccination,” said apparently Pashtun, a youth activist living in New Saranan refugee camp in Balochistan province. I do not think that even one percent people have been given the vaccine. Many have even said that if they are not vaccinated, they will die.
No death in the camp so far
Obviously, no one has died due to the virus in the camp yet, but the economic condition of many daily wage workers has deteriorated (Afghan Refugees in Pakistan on COVID Vaccine). One person living in the Pashtun camp even said that instead of vaccinating the refugees, the government should give them money.
