Former Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his family vacated the Prime Minister’s House on Sunday morning. With the formation of an alternative government in the country, the leader, who has been in office for a long time, has vacated the house almost a month after being ousted from power. His family spokesman confirmed that the Netanyahu family vacated the Balfour Street residence in Jerusalem shortly after midnight.
He left the residence in accordance with an agreement reached last month with newly elected Prime Minister Naftali Bennett. The Balfour residence had become a symbol of Netanyahu’s alleged scandals and was also the site of weekly demonstrations against him for much of last year. The protesters had demanded the resignation of the then Prime Minister, who was facing trial in the corruption case.
Netanyahu’s tenure is longest in history
Netanyahu, however, denied the allegations and resigned. Netanyahu was Israel’s longest-serving prime minister, having held the position for the past 12 years and had a brief stint in the office in the 1990s and had been living in the residence since 2009. Bennett has not yet announced a date for his stay at the residence.
Bennett’s new government has 27 ministers, nine of whom are women. Bennett is leading a government with a modest majority in the 120-member house with 60 MPs. Parties of different ideologies have formed an alliance for the new government. Among them there is a party of the Arab community along with the right wing, left, centrist.
Israel signs agreement with Pfizer for vaccines
Israel’s prime minister has said that an agreement has been reached with Pfizer to receive a new batch of vaccines in August to give the country’s teens an anti-coronavirus vaccine. Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said at the beginning of the weekly cabinet meeting that an agreement has been reached to receive a vaccine consignment on August 1 to ensure uninterrupted supply of vaccines to Israel. He said that more than two lakh people in the country have been given anti-Covid-19 vaccine in recent weeks.
