Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday asked the banks to ensure that all the accounts are linked to the Aadhaar number of customers by 31 March 2021. He said that the process of financial inclusion is not over yet and banks will have to take it further. There are many accounts which are not linked to Aadhaar. Sitharaman, while addressing the 73rd annual meeting of the Indian Banks Association (IBA), said that by 31 March 2021, PAN should be in every account, where PAN is necessary and appropriate, and Aadhaar is for every account.
Sitharaman insists on UPI based payment
Sitharaman further said that banks should not encourage non-digital payments and should promote digital payment technology. With this, many UPI based payments should be adopted. The Finance Minister said that UPI should be a common colloquial term in our banks. With this, he said that banks should publicize RuPay cards. He said that whoever needs the card, RuPay will be the only card you will promote. Sitharaman also said that the country needs big banks.
How to link bank account to Aadhaar?
If you want to link Aadhaar to your bank account online, then it is important for you to be active for that bank. If your net banking is active, then log in to your net banking. After logging in you will get the option to link the Aadhaar number. For example, if you are a customer of SBI, then after logging on to www.onlinesbi.com, on the left side of the screen, under “My Accounts”, an option of “Link your Aadhaar number” will be given. Go here and submit your Aadhaar number. Then the last two numbers of your registered mobile number will be displayed. Status will be sent to this mobile number.
If you do not use net banking, you can go to the bank and link the account with Aadhaar. Where you have to take a photo copy of Aadhaar card, your passbook. After this, submitting a form will have to be submitted. You will be notified by sending an SMS once the account is linked to Aadhaar. Keep in mind that if your Aadhaar and bank given mobile numbers are different then the link will not be there. Apart from this, you can also link your bank account to Aadhaar from your nearest ATM.
