Samsung remained on the second position in the year 2021 even after a decline of 8 per cent in shipments. The company achieved 18% market share. The main reason for the decline in shipments was supply chain issues, less focus in the entry level segment and fewer device launches in the mid-range. However, Samsung remained the top 5G smartphone seller in the fourth and last quarter of the year.
Realme joined as the fastest growing brand last year. The company registered year-on-year growth of 20 per cent. The brand jumped to the second position in the fourth quarter. Overall, the brand stood at the fourth position with a market share of 14 per cent. At the same time, Vivo emerged as the top 5G smartphone company with 19 percent market share. The company posted 2% year-on-year growth on the back of the Y and V series. Overall, it was the third largest brand with a market share of 15 per cent. OPPO ranked fifth with year-on-year growth of 6 percent. It was the fastest growing brand in the premium segment.
TRANSSION Group, a company with brands like itel Infinix and TECNO, saw 55 per cent annual growth and crossed 10 million shipments in the Indian smartphone market for the first time. Apple recorded a year-on-year growth of 108 percent in shipments. It became one of the fastest growing brands in 2021. Its share in the premium segment stood at 44 per cent. On the other hand, OnePlus saw the highest shipments last year with year-on-year growth of 59 per cent. The company crossed the 5 million mark because of the Nord series.
