WhatsApp Payment Service: You can send money along with the message on WhatsApp. This service has started from Wednesday. The WhatsApp Payments feature is currently available for about 2 crore people across the country. WhatsApp has started this service in association with State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank. WhatsApp’s payments feature is based on the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) system of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). NPCI had last month approved WhatsApp to start payment services. Through this feature of WhatsApp, people will be able to make payments, transfer money. WhatsApp has 400 million users across the country.
Create a WhatsApp Pay account like this
- Touch the three dots above right on the screen of WhatsApp.
- There will be a payment option, go to it and then click on Add Payment Method.
- Select the bank where you have an account.
- For verification, select the option of verification through SMS.
- After this, a code will come on the mobile number associated with the bank account, fill it and then your verification will be completed. Keep in mind that the WhatsApp number and the number linked to the bank account should be the same.
- Generate UPI PIN after verification. For this, you have to fill a desired number and fill it again and confirm it.
After making a payment account, do transactions like this
- Open the chat of the person you want to send money to.
- Touch the attachment mark in the message box.
- After this, tap on Payment and fill the amount you want to send.
- After this, fill the UPI PIN on asking for it.
- Confirmation message will come after payment.

SBI’s most UPI users
At present, SBI has 12 crore UPI users across the country, which is 28 percent of the UPI system across the country. UPI transactions are growing rapidly. According to the latest data from NPCI, there were 221 crore UPI transactions, which is 6.7 percent higher than the 207 crore UPI transactions in October. In September this year, 180 crore UPI transactions took place.
