Apple tops market with 48 percent share
Apple has registered an increase of 207 percent (year-on-year) in India in the first quarter of 2021, taking its momentum further in the period January-March this year. For the first time, Apple has recorded more than 10 lakh shipments (sales) in two consecutive quarters. Apple was the sixth largest smartphone vendor in India in the festive quarter of 2020, registering a growth of 171 percent. Apple recorded its best quarter in the last quarter of 2020 i.e. October to December, during which the company sold more than 1.5 million units.
Older generation iPhone 11 sales growth and the new mid-range iPhone SE helped the company to move ahead in the festive quarter. Looking at the entire year of 2020, Apple, the iPhone maker, registered a growth of 93 percent (year-on-year). India’s smartphone shipments registered a 23 percent year-on-year growth in the first quarter of 2021, with sales up to more than 38 million units.
