Sandes App has been launched by the National Informatics Center (NIC), Government of India, as an alternative to WhatsApp and other instant messaging apps. The message app can be used by both government officials and individual users. It requires a mobile number or email ID to sign up. Once signed up, users can send and receive messages, as well as create new groups or send multimedia content such as photos and videos.
