Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad attacked the social media companies and said that in any case, they will have to follow the new IT rules made by the government and work in the same country. At the same time, these social media companies will have to be more accountable to the government from now on. Prasad also attacked BJP leader Sambit Patra’s Twitter post here for tagging Manipulated Media which was linked to the Congress toolkit. He said that social media giant should not favor any one.
The Indian government has told social media companies like Twitter and Facebook here that they have to abide by the new rules and share the information of the Chief Compliance Officer, Nodal Liaison Officer and Grievance Officer with the IT Ministry. In this, all social media companies have said yes, but Twitter has not given any opinion on it so far. The new rules also require companies to disclose the origin of posts that can cause trouble.
In an interview to India Today, the IT Ministry said that in the interest of preventing misuse of social media, the government wants to know the origin of only those messages which cause violence, riots, terrorism, rape and threat to national security. In my interview, as Law Minister, I want to say to all social media companies that India’s digital sovereignty will not be compromised at any cost. “
Fact checkers want to spread agenda against Modi
Facebook has approached the court in view of the IT rules, in which Prasad criticized the decision saying that the government is not afraid of criticism, but questions the intent of Twitter’s fact-checkers. He further said that the agenda of a fact checker is to spread hatred against Modi at the moment. We welcome criticisms. Since 2001, our PM has been facing criticism from all over the world. In such a situation, social media companies cannot promote only one party here.
As an American profit making company, do business in India in every way. But follow the laws and constitution of India. Our Parliament and institutions are as important as any other country. Prasad further said that social media companies easily supply data on the origin of messages when requested by US or UK governments in matters related to terrorism.
