Flipkart has shared some of the initial trends seen in the 8th edition of The Big Billion Days sale. The e-commerce giant’s annual flagship event began on October 3 and since then, the iPhone 12 series has claimed to have sold around 2 lakh units. In a recent note, Flipkart said that the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini are currently the preferred smartphone models for The Big Billion Days sale customers. Most of the two million Apple iPhone 12 devices sold so far have these two phones.

Flipkart says that every one in five customers chose to exchange their smartphone for a new one during The Big Billion Days sale. Around 82.60 per cent customers chose to pay for their next smartphone using the prepaid payment option.

In the Large Appliances and Electronics category, TVs were found to be the top selling category among home devices, while laptops topped the electronics category. There was also a great demand for wireless earphones. An important indicator of people going back to the office was also seen from the spike in sales of sports shoes and outdoor wear.

According to Flipkart, an increase in sales was witnessed by Flipkart Plus customers during the early access period of the sale. About 40 percent more buyers were registered during this period. Moreover, the sales anticipation was evident from over 2 million customers who pre-booked 5 million products just before Early Access by paying Re 1.

The company shared some insights on the payment options chosen by the customers during the sale. As per its note, the Flipkart Pay Later payment option accounts for the second largest share among all payment options. It ranks right after credit cards in all prepaid orders. Flipkart Pay Later is currently on sale even more than UPI transactions.

To enable these high sales figures, Flipkart claims that this year’s The Big Billion Days sales have been made bigger than any previous sale. For example, the Flipkart app is now available in 11 Indian languages, enabling users across the country to have an e-commerce experience through the service. Flipkart also says that most of the shipments during the sale are being delivered in sustainable packaging through electric vehicles operating across the country.
