The company says its Play Protect scans more than 100 billion apps for malware and other issues, as cyber attacks by criminals in many countries and criminals continue to grow rapidly.
As the technology is increasing, the cyber attacks are also increasing continuously. Companies are constantly trying to stop them. In this episode, Google also keeps trying to keep its platform secure. Google has said that every day, Gmail blocks over 100 million phishing attacks. The company says its Play Protect scans more than 100 billion apps for malware and other issues, as cyber attacks by criminals in many countries and criminals continue to grow rapidly.
Some of the most widespread and dangerous attacks against digital infrastructure have occurred in the past six months. These cyber attacks have taken place against public utilities, private sector companies, government entities and people living in democratic countries around the world.
Google Senior Vice President (Global Affairs) Kent Walker said, “We are deeply concerned by these trends. Security is the cornerstone of our product strategy. We have dedicated teams like Project Zero that focus on finding and fixing vulnerabilities on the web to make the internet safe for all of us.”
Committed to comply with House Cyber Security Executive Order
Google says that in the US, the company is committed to complying with the most recent White House cybersecurity executive order, a key step in improving America’s cyber security in key areas. Google said it strongly supports the modernization of computing systems, making security simple and scalable by default, and adopting best-in-class technology such as the zero trust framework.
“As we saw with the SolarWinds and Microsoft Exchange attacks, proprietary systems and restrictions on interoperability and data portability can increase network vulnerability, allowing attackers to scale up their efforts,” Walker stressed.
He said, “At Google, we have placed an emphasis on securing the software supply chain and we have built technologies for a long time. We advocate for standards that enhance the integrity and security of software.”
Hundreds of companies are upset due to cyber attacks
Taking a tough stand on rising ransomware attacks, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the US Department of Justice have treated such cyber incidents as a form of terror attacks. Major meat producer JBS USA has faced a cyber attack and ransom demand from a criminal organization based in Russia.
The latest ransomware attack comes weeks after a similar cyberattack targeting Colonial Pipeline forced the company to shut down nearly 5,500 miles of fuel pipeline for days.
The public and private sectors will need to work together in areas such as sharing information on cyber threats, Google said. A comprehensive, defensive security posture has to be developed to protect against ransomware. “Governments need industry-wide support and we stand ready to do our part,” Walker said.
