Nokia has filed complaints regarding the Oppo smartphone brand in the European and Asian markets and these patents are related to connectivity, interface and security features.
Oppo Vs Nokia
Finnish telecommunications company Nokia has filed several patent infringement complaints against smartphone brand Oppo over standard-essential patents (SEP) and non-SEP patents. According to the report of GSMArena, these patents are related to connectivity, interface and security features. A complaint has been lodged in the European and Asian markets regarding this matter.
The report said that smartphone brands Oppo and Nokia had signed a multi-year licensing agreement in 2018 and it seems that this contract has now expired. Nokia is issuing an official statement that Oppo has rejected its offer to renew its contract. Therefore, the company has to take legal action because Oppo is still using these patents.
Oppo also reacted to Nokia’s action
Media reports said that Oppo found Nokia’s action “shocking” and accused it of disregarding the patent license under fair and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms. Regarding this, the company said that Oppo respects and protects the intellectual property rights of itself and third parties, and is committed to patent licensing cooperation in the industry. Oppo opposes the unfair practice of using litigation as a tool.
Nokia has many patents
Along with this, a Nokia spokesperson also agreed that there are other ways in which this situation can be resolved. Let us tell you that Nokia has many patents and has signed royalty bearing agreements with companies like Samsung, Apple, LG, Lenovo and Blackberry. However, both the companies have not disclosed how they will deal with this matter. Apart from this, it was also revealed in a new memo that the sub-brand of OnePlus Oppo will be discontinued.
