Whatsapp Vs Signal: Facebook-owned apps suffered a massive outage on Friday. Major social media apps including WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram were down for 45 minutes. The social media giant blamed a technical issue for the global outage. Meanwhile, WhatsApp’s rival Signal saw a perfect opportunity to take potshots on the messaging app.
Signal not only did the sarcasm on WhatsApp but took advantage of this opportunity and invited more users to join the app. Signal wrote, “You can register on Signal. All users experiencing an outage on WhatsApp are welcome on the signal! People outside the tech industry will never understand how strange it is to say that they are going through downtime during weekends ”.
Signal registrations are through the roof; welcome everyone! Solidarity to the folks working on the WhatsApp outage. People outside of the tech industry will never understand how weird it sounds when someone says that they are “looking forward to some weekend downtime.

Signals benefit from WhatsApp Privacy Policy
When WhatsApp announced its new privacy policy, there was a sudden increase in signal users. With little knowledge of what the new WhatsApp policies mean, most users switched to other messaging apps such as Telegram and Signal, thinking that WhatsApp would gain access to personal conversations. WhatsApp was supposed to meet its new terms of service but in view of the public backlash, the company had to postpone it till 15 May. Reminds in-app users to accept new terms of service to continue using the messaging app.
WhatsApp has shared details about how the change in policy will have an impact on users. It has been repeatedly mentioned that chats are encrypted end-to-end and that no one other than the sender and receiver can use chat, not even WhatsApp. The company has also shared that it will not share any information of the user with Facebook, contrary to the report.
Over 1.2 million user outage problems
Let us know that users around the world could not use WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram for about an hour. Facebook and Instagram feeds were not refreshing and users were unable to send or receive messages on WhatsApp. Outage tracking website Downdetector revealed that the app went down between 11 pm and 11:40 pm. Over 1.2 million users reported issues with WhatsApp on the website.
Acknowledging the issue, a Facebook spokesperson said, “A day before today, people had trouble accessing certain Facebook services due to a technical problem. We have resolved this issue for everyone and we apologize for any inconvenience. ”
