Smartphone brands Samsung and Vivo have been the world’s fastest growing 5G smartphone vendors in the first quarter of 2021. This has been claimed in a new report. South Korean tech giant Samsung posted a quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) growth of 79 percent, while Vivo jumped 62 percent QoQ, according to new research by Strategy Analytics.
Ken Hires, Director of Strategy Analytics, said in a statement on Thursday, “Global 5G smartphone shipments grew 6 percent QoQ and hit a record 136 million units during the first quarter of 2021.” Haiers said demand for 5G smartphones remains very strong, especially in China, the US and Western Europe. We anticipate global 5G smartphone shipments to reach a record 624 million units for full year 2021, growing from 269 million in full year 2020.
According to Ville-Peteri Ukonaho, Associate Director of Strategy Analytics, Samsung is doing well in South Korea, North America and parts of Europe with new 5G models, such as the Galaxy S21 5G, S21 Ultra 5G and S21 Plus 5G.
Vivo, on the other hand, has been the second fastest growing 5G smartphone vendor in the first quarter of 2021, reaching 19 million units from a 62 percent QoQ powered by its IQOO Q3 5G and U7 5G smartphones. The company said that Vivo’s 5G smartphone strongholds are China and Europe. Oppo increased QoQ by 55 percent, while Xiaomi increased QoQ by 41 percent.
Both companies have helped India in COVID
Vivo had announced an assistance of Rs 10 crore, extending its support to India’s fight against the second wave of COVID. Apart from this, South Korea’s giant technology company Samsung had announced a grant of Rs 37 crore. Earlier, Vivo had recently announced a donation of Rs 2 crore to overcome the lack of oxygen in the country.
