ESA said driving is done for about 15 minutes during these exercises. This whole process will last for a few days. After landing, the rover will be busy for a week or so to unscrew its wheels and check the rest. Mars is similar to Earth in many ways. There are 24 hours 37 minutes and 22.663 seconds in a day, which is only slightly longer than Earth.
Engineer Rosalind Franklin is using a twin machine from the rover to test different conditions and keep the rover safe in the challenging Martian environment. The machine that is being tested has been named Amalia. The name is inspired by the famous astrophysicist ‘Amalia Ercoli Finzi’. Amalia has extensive experience in space dynamics.
The ExoMars mission is primarily designed to find traces of life on Mars. The use of the word ‘Exo’ in its name talks about the study of exobiology. In this, the possibilities of life other than the earth are discovered. There are two parts to this mission. The first part consists of a ‘Trace Gas Orbiter’ and a landing module. It has been launched in March 2016. The second part involves the rover, which is planned to be launched in September this year.
The ‘Trace Gas Orbiter’ sent as part of the first part of the mission had recently achieved great success. It was discovered that water is hidden beneath the surface of the Valles Marineris Valley of Mars. The Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) has discovered a large amount of water in this valley.
